GRADUATED March 2008!!!

19/7/2008
Just hear Magnus has now got a full time job in Dunoon and will be staying with his new partner very soon. Congratulations Magnus!!

14/4/2008
Good news, we heard a couple of weeks ago, Magnus has passed his tests at "college" we are waiting to hear where he will be going  for his first full time job!

Thats it, he's gone!  Big gap in the house and in the hoover bag.

We have had a couple of reports from the "college" and word is he is doing well, he has been paired up with another dog called "Clyde" and they are big friends.  Looks like he won't be coming back to us which is good news and what it was all about!

  In the beginning!
Magnus leaves us to go to "University" next week.  It is going to be a big change for us not having him around and our feelings are mixed about him heading off.  I'm sure he will do well, he has matured a lot over the last few months and is ready for it.  Some photos of his leaving party to follow soon!

Birthday today!  Magnus woke up to presents this morning, a squeeky toy, big bone and a soft toy, spoilt or what!
Happy Birthday
7/9/2007
It is coming up to Magnus's first Birthday in the next few weeks so he is planning on getting a few pictures in the report from his birthday party!!
Magnus has nearly finished his time with us, he will be heading off to boot camp in mid October so we are relishing every day with him at the moment.
21/7/2007
Magnus has been on holiday for the last 3 weeks and we will not have him back for another 2 weeks, we did get a postcard and he appears to be having an excellent time on the West coast.
More news when he returns (Resistance to midges has got to be a good test for any aspiring guide dog!)

23/6/2007
Bit a scare with Magnus yesterday, he very suddenly became very weak and could not stand up, we took him to the vet twice and the only thing the vet thought was that he had strained his groin, in the last few hours however he has made a remarkable recovery so we now think he had some sort of dog bug.  Emergency over!

12/6/2007
A DARK day for Magnus, today Magnus had the "operation" he is no longer the man he was; he is currently adjusting and feeling very sorry for himself.
Ouch!
31/5/2007
Magnus is in the dog house today, his hormones are kicking in which for some reason means he likes running through the flower bed trying to bury his bone.  Just as well he is so cute!!

23/5/2007

Magnus went on a return trip on the train today from Perth to Gleneagles, unfortunately someone who should have known better did not read the timetable correctly so the trip resulted in a very long walk to Auchterarder bus stop to catch the bus back  2 hours later.  All part of the learning experience.  Magnus is loosing his puppy looks by the day, and is no longer the main attraction when he goes out, however he has not relised this yet and still loves to meet people.

9/5/2007
Magnus has just got back from a 7 day sleep over with another carer while we were off orienteering and hang gliding.
He appears to have enjoyed his stay and gave us a big welcome back.  One major development has been that he has started to lift his leg when relieving himself, perhaps not the most significant milestone in his life but our lawn appreciates it!  (No picture, too embarrassing)
Wet Dog

Magnus was looking a bit worse for wear yesterday.

He made an allegiance with a rook in the back garden and between the two of them managed to get the "fat and seed" filled coconut off the bird table.  As you can imagine only the shell was left after a few minutes;  Magnus spent the rest of the day lying around  looking like he had just had a christmas dinner.

Happy to say he is back to normal now with no signs of feathers or bird song coming from him!

Another new experience this week, went to a dry sand beach for the first time; the sand under his feet sent Magnus mad.  He quickly settled down though back to his normal chilled out self.  Not much he has not seen now and tomorrow he is going skiing, not your standard guide dog activity but good experience.

Magnus went all charitable today and donned a Red Nose for comic relief.

Magnus has passed another milestone he has lost all his puppy teeth (as far as we can see) and is much more mature.  Fortunately the new teeth are not as sharp as the old set.  He is very quick to learn and responds to a number of commands now.
Sitting
28/2/2007
Magnus had a good training session today, managing to avoid the distraction of corn beef and crisps place in the arena as a temptation. (May have been something to do with the pocketful of chicken that Heather was carrying!)
Lying
16/2/2007
Magnus got a new coat today, hopefully he will be able to go down the street with less attention to help with his training.  We have started serious training now, sitting, lying, telling the truth, waiting, and coming when called.

Magnus has started gathering small furry friends from the boys, signs of an identity crisis?

10/2/2007
Magnus visited the barbers for the first time today, he sat calmly at the bottom foot of the chair throughout gradually getting covered with a layer of dark hair.

5/2/2007
Magnus discovered the wonder of bubbles today, a bit scary to start with but nothing but fun after that!

He is still getting on well and experiencing lots of new things, learning to sit quietly in restaurants is at the top of the learning curve though at the moment!

28/1/2007
Magnus did his first orienteering event today, coming in 3rd on the White course with Euan and Callum.
Another big "character test" for him today was going through a car wash (in the car), he was not phased at all simply looking at the window wondering what was going on.

Magnus had his first days puppy training 2 hours in Perth.
He did well in all the exercises except for one.  Being a smart dog, he worked out that the logic of getting one single dog treat for walking past a large pile of dog treats did not stack up so decided to take a dive for them and got his calculated reward, a LARGE mouthful of dog treats!!

On returning home he was obviously very tired after a long day and was not up for more study.
Too much learning!
22/1/2007
Magnus has been working hard in preperation for his first days puppy training.  Starting with the theory last night.

20/1/2007
Magnus had a bit of a stomach bug earlier this week but all is well again.  He is looking forward to his first snow experience over the next few days.
Study time
14/1/2007
Magnus has lost four of his puppy teeth this week,  despite Euan and Callum trying to find them to put under their OWN pillows they were never found.  Gappy photograph can be seen with the new teeth showing through!
The Gap

7/1/2007
Magnus enjoys a good walk in the countyside, today he went for a walk including a section through a long railway tunnel.   The dark and the bats did not bother him one bit.
Having a run
6/1/2007
Magnus has his first trip on a bus today; despite the person sitting next to him patting him with their soft leather, fur cuffed gloves he was very well behaved.

4/1/2007
Magnus is starting to feel a bit put out by the cats ability to get in an out of the house at will.  No sign of a great friendship yet!

2/1/2007
Magnus is recovering from Hogmany,  he has learn't that "hair of the dog" does not work!!

He spent the 1st with his best friends Harvey and Flynn from Dunfermline,  he likes playing with the older boys.

1/1/2007
Magnus says “Happy new year to Lucy, Adam, Yumi and  everyone on the Magnus field, hope I don’t let you all down! My resolution is to work hard and become a great guide dog”  Love Magnus.

16/12/2006
Magnus is growing fast now.  He is happy to go for walks around the village although has to say hello to everyone and everyone has to say hello to him!  He has quickly caught onto the idea of presents under the tree and checks regularly.

7/12/2006
Another inspection today, it went well with Magnus being on best behaviour, I think the badge is going to his head!!

29/11/2006
Today we received a picture of Magnus’s mum, I don’t think he recognized his mum but it was difficult to tell.  Thanks to Adam Yumi and Lucy for the pictures.

26/11/2006
He had his first “voluntary” walk in the country today.

 25/11/2006
Toilet training is going well unless it is raining; Magnus slips off into a corner to avoid the rain leaving us to track down the smell!!

He does not chase our cat Masie but we have not got a picture of them together yet!
There is not much he will not chew, including Callum's skateboard helmet.

22/11/2006
Today Magnus had his first assessment; he did well and was not scared by cars or buses in the village.

15/11/2006
Magnus had a bit of trouble with toilet training today as you can see.

12/11/2006
Today Magnus had his first walk, went to Dunkeld and he walked 100m.

10/11/2006
Magnus arrived.
Magnus arrived today; he is a guide dog puppy and will be living with us for the next year.  He is only 6 weeks old but is very lively!

He refuses to go for a walk!!
